Online Counselling for Clients in the UK and Overseas
John Whelehan offers online counselling to clients in the UK and overseas, by video or call on Zoom, WhatsApp or Microsoft Teams. Sessions last 50 minutes and cost £90. He is an integrative counsellor and registered BACP member, offering a warm, non-judgmental space from wherever you feel comfortable and private.
How does online counselling work?
First, call or email to arrange an initial assessment appointment. We talk through why you are thinking of counselling, whether it could help, and whether I am the right therapist for you. You choose the platform you prefer: Zoom, WhatsApp or Microsoft Teams. Before each session I send you a payment link, and I send the session link by email, text or WhatsApp, whichever you prefer. Most clients meet weekly, at the same day and time, for 50 minutes.
What do I need for an online session?
You need a private room where you will not be overheard or interrupted, a phone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone, and a stable internet connection. Headphones help if you want extra privacy. I can talk you through the set-up and the privacy settings for your chosen platform before your first session.
Who is online counselling for?
Online sessions suit anyone who prefers to talk from home, and people for whom travelling is difficult: those who live outside London and Surrey, live overseas, work shifts, or find getting to a room hard. Clients in the UK and overseas are welcome.
How much does online counselling cost, and how do I pay?
An online session costs £90 for 50 minutes. Sessions are usually paid in advance: before your session time I send you a payment link. Block booking is optional: pay for 6 sessions in advance and save 5%, which is £513 instead of £540. Blue light workers, including NHS staff, police officers, firefighters and paramedics, can apply for a limited number of online appointments at 50% off.
Is online counselling confidential?
Yes, with limits. What you say stays private, but no therapist can promise total confidentiality. The law requires disclosure in some situations, such as certain child protection issues, and I may need to act if you or someone else is at serious risk. Breaking confidentiality is rare and happens only after speaking to you. I do not record sessions.
How do I book?
